About Printbrick
A message from Ben (Printbrick founder)
Hey,
Thanks for visiting printbrick.com! From one enthusiast to another, welcome you to the platform! Whether its buying parts for your classic Volvo project, selling 3D prints you developed to help others with theirs’, or simply staying in touch via our social media channels, it’s seriously awesome to have you involved. What’s our hobby without the community part of it anyways, right?
How did Printbrick come about? Good question! It all started when I was in the process of fixing up my second Volvo 240 (a 91 wagon). I came across several interior parts that were either missing or broken, and in my search for replacements, I found that many of these parts were either hard to find, expensive, or both. At first I thought “well that’s the nature of the hobby” and dealt with it. But when I started searching for a certain grille for my defrost vents, I realized that it was simply not available anywhere online. Nowhere.
That’s when I started thinking about 3D printing. As someone who’s dabbled in several different hobbies, I’d known a bit about 3D printing for quite a few years, but I’d always looked at it as more of a novelty at the hobbyist level with low quality clearly-3D-printed demo objects or figurines being the primary use case. But the more research I did, the more I realized how far low cost 3D printing technology had progressed in recent years; high quality parts could realistically and cheaply produced at home by the average hobbyist that rival injection molded parts in terms of finish quality.
All of a sudden, 3D printing parts to use in my Volvo restoration project didn’t seem like an impossible task. I got myself a decent 3D printer and got to work. Within a couple days, I’d dialed everything in and was looking at a pair of brand new vent grills.
I knew that a store that sold high quality 3D printed Volvo parts was something that other enthusiasts could benefit from, but also realized that it would be an impossible task to build on my own. I decided to tap into the very best part of this hobby- the community.
So welcome to printbrick.com, a marketplace for 3D printed Volvo parts. Feel free to buy and sell parts, or simply join our virtual community on social media. I’ll be sure to give you a wave if I see you out on the road!
